A Username is a person's identification while working in a network. A person may have different names for different applications, but having a username is mandatory for any function that requires personal identification. An example of a username is the name you use for remote log-on.
Username, also known as ID number (or handle, for you trucking enthusiasts), is the user's unique identification code. It is used any time personal identification is required for authorization, such as during a Telnet or FTP session. It is also required by some Internet providers to begin using an account. The username may be alphabetic or numeric in form. Your username is just one piece of information required for a successful log-on. When using the popular FTP program Fetch, it is necessary to know the host name, your username, password and directory. Telnet requires the password and host, session, and user name.
